I don’t normally post twice in one day, and I try not to post on weekends, but I feel that this cannot wait. I haven’t been as dutiful an activist as I normally am, and it is time to get back on the wagon.
Many of you may have heard of the mass killings of dogs in China due to a rabies outbreak. I won’t recap too much, as you can read the articles in the links below, but suffice it to say, these dogs are being brutally clubbed to death. This practice must stop now, and we can help, by writing to the government officials responsibile for this.
Since I know it can be time-consuming to copy and paste a million different email addresses, and create a salutation for all those people, and then come up with something brilliant to say, I am going to try to shorten the process for you here. I’m posting my own letter below, and you can use any of the talking points you like, and even copy and paste the salutation. But PLEASE do NOT copy the actual text. Your letter needs to be unique. I have also added a list of email addresses that correspond to each of the recipients listed in my own letter. You can easily copy and paste that into your email.
So, without further ado, here is my somewhat unremarkable, but sincere letter.
Dear Mr. President Hu Jintao,
Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sun Chenjia,
Department of Agriculture of Shaanxi Province, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau,
Health Department of Shaanxi Province,
Shaanxi Provincial Health Authority,
and People’s government of Hangzhong City,
I have heard about the rabies problem you have recently encountered, and the response to it: mass canine killings.
I have read that many of the dogs killed were licensed and vaccinated, which would make their deaths a useless tragedy.I have also heard that these dogs are being clubbed or beaten to death. I implore you to end this cruel, inhumane practice. These dogs do not deserve to suffer like that.
From what I have read, mass killings have been proven NOT to prevent a rabies outbreak. Only mass vaccinations can keep rabies from spreading, and I ask you to please implement a HUMANE vaccination program to address this outbreak.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you will consider these points.
Sincerely,
Ms. YW
